Media Arts

Sachem High School East – Ms. Corbisiero

Media Art satisfies the New York State art requirement for graduation.  It is a credit-bearing course that meets daily from September through June and includes a final exam project at the end of the course.

The curriculum is based on the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design, as well as the standards of art set by New York State. Using Apple computers and design programs each project will incorporate a combination of these concepts.

Requirements and Materials

  • Students are asked to bring in the following materials (due Wednesday 9/12) which will remain in class:

    • Signed contract slip (please cut from the bottom of this page, keep the rest of the page for reference)

    • Signed Computer Lab Policy

    • 3 – (#2) pencils with erasers (prefer “Dixon Ticonderoga” brand)

    • USB Flash Drive (min 2GB) is strongly recommended but not required.

  • This is a workshop class.  Attendance, promptness to class, positive/on-task behavior and participation are required.          Poor attendance, lateness, cutting, poor behavior, etc. will negatively impact a student’s grade.

  • Good time management and adherence to due dates are crucial.

  • Proper use of and respect for all technology, materials, and artwork is mandatory. Students will be responsible for the work area and computer.  Please refer to our “Lab Use Policy” for further information.

  •             Any deliberate harm done to your or anyone else’s computer will result in strict disciplinary action.

  •             The internet will be used only when necessary for the completion of a project. It is NOT for personal use.

  •             During any non computer work time computers will be off or “sleeping”.

  • Courtesy and respect for others is expected.

Absences

  • The art department strictly adheres to Sachem’s attendance policy.

  • If a student cannot attend class, it will be his/her responsibility to make up missed assignments.  Assignment information can be obtained by contacting a classmate or by emailing me at LCorbisiero@Sachem.edu.

  • If a student falls behind due to absences, he/she will be expected to make up time after school.

  • If a student is legally absent the day an assignment is due, he/she must turn the assignment in the day he/she returns to school, unless otherwise discussed.

  • Work that is late due to one or more illegal absences will receive no credit.

Discipline

If a behavioral problem arises, the procedure is:

  • Verbal warning

  • Parental contact / Possible detention

  • Referral to Assistant Principal

Extra help

Extra help is available regularly and as needed after school, during 9th period.  Please see me to discuss staying after to be sure I am available.

Grading

Grades are based on a project average for the marking period (60%) and participation and preparedness (40%).  A final exam project is given at the end of the year, and the final grade for the course is the average of all four marking periods and the final, each weighted at 20%.
